While working on a personal history for a local WWII veteran here in North Carolina, we travelled north to Dobson, NC. Part of the story was this man’s weekend trips into Mt. Airy, which is the home of Andy Griffith and the basis for Mayberry in the popular TV show of the 1960s. We passed by Wally’s Service Station and with a little desaturation, the place quickly faded forty years.
